Gas installation, servicing, and testing
EMERGENCY | Reporting a gas leak to AGN immediately call: Gas Leaks and Emergency Services on 1800 GAS LEAK (1800 427 532)
The Emergency operator will give you advice about what to do and if appropriate arrange for an engineer to visit within 1 or 2 hours and make the situation safe.
Please note, the emergency engineers do not repair appliances or internal home pipework. You will need to contact us to rectify these problems.
The most common gas supplied and used within residential homes and commercial premises is Natural gas (NG). The reticulated gas main is conveyed into your premises or residence via infrastructure piping. There is then an isolation valve, filter, pressure regulator and gas meter all sized and set up to the specific requirement of the building occupants' gas usage. This is installed and maintained by the utility operators and gas retailers
Downstream of the meter, we have the consumer piping. Brown and Son Plumbing sizes and installs each individual gas piping installation to meet the specific site requirements and downstream appliance usage, in each particular situation.
LPG systems, generally in gas bottles, is the common alternative where there are no existing NG gas mains available.
The common residential LPG system consists of a twin 45Kg bottle set up with either a manual or automatic 2-stage regulator that reduces the pressure of the LPG from the bottle to 2.75Kpa into the gas consumer piping.
These bottle systems are swap-and-go systems where your LPG retailer will come and swap your empty bottle on a regular basis.
Larger homes and commercial premises depending on their gas usage would generally have what we call an insitu bottle installation that is permanently in place. This is where the LPG gas retailer will set up and fill the permanent gas bottle on a regular basis.
Again, with both types of LPG systems, they both require detailed calculations to ensure sufficient controls, pipe sizing and ultimately gas delivery at each appliance.
Servicing / Testing
Brown and Son Plumbing take pride in servicing your appliances and equipment to meet or exceed the manufacturer's specifications. All testing is carried out to meet AS5601 gas installations.
It is recommended that your gas heating system is serviced at least once every 2 years, This will prolong the life of the appliance, ensure the system is burning efficiently and most importantly ensure the appliance is operating safely and not emitting dangerous carbon monoxide (CO) gases into your living areas.
>Hot water systems also require regular servicing. We follow the manufacturer's recommendations for setting up detailed procedures and checklists to ensure your warranty is upheld, the life of the system is prolonged and the end user is protected from scalding.
Our gas and hot water servicing is always carried out by a qualified technician and they are trained to inspect for potential issues before they occur. Safety is also a core focus and our technicians are fully trained and licenced.
